Under the guidelines of the sentence...Geoghan may be considered for parole after six years.
Preparations were under way for another trail against him for a child rape
alleged to have occurred in 1986. Geoghan...who was defrocked in 1998...
served Boston-area parishes for 30 years.
Geoghan...66...was convicted last month of indecent assault and battery against a 10-year-old boy in 1991.

Prosecuting attorney Lynn Rooney told Hamlin that Geoghan "represents a danger to all young boys" in Massachusetts because of his admitted long history of sexual contact with young boys.
An evaluation at a state mental hospital...she said...suggested that Geoghan had "no cognitive structures...available to him to deter him from further such contact." Rooney recommended the maximum sentence...nine to ten years.
More charges pending
Geoghan still faces two criminal charges and dozens of civil lawsuits. More than 130 people have accused him of sexual abuse.
Geoghan had been expected to go on trail earlier for the child rape...but the start of the trail has been delayed while the judge in the case considers motions.
The Associated Press reported that under pressure following Geoghan's conviction...Cardinal Bernard Law gave prosecutors the names of more than 80 active and former priests accused of abuse during the last four decades.

Pepper-spray and rubber bullets were fired into the crowd. Peaceful demonstrators...middle-aged librarians and mothers with small children in tow...were attacked...people were said to be assaulted by the police under the direction of the Secret Service. They ran...screaming..."We are not the enemy". A baby was also said to have been sprayed.
Even before September 11th...the First Amendment has been secured behind a chain link fence well out of sight. What happened here isn't the first instance of peaceful protestors being intimidated...harassed...
threatened and even illegally detained. Just the worst abuse of executive power that began on 9/12/01. (And it's just my personal opinion...but you don't take kids to a protest!)

No...it's Portland Oregon USA
The Associated Press reported a small protest in Portland, Oregon. A band of people numbering in the "hundreds" gathered to protest Bush administration policies ranging from war in Iraq to forestry initiatives.
At some point during this peaceful protest...the police reacted violently to protestors' unwillingness to remain inside so called First Amendment Zones...remote areas cordoned off and removed from presidential view...where protestors can hold signs without their being seen by either the president they are protesting or the press sent to cover his visit. Protestors are not allowed outside these zones...while presidential supporters are escorted inside.
